Recording

Open Family Museum, tap the microphone button in the tab bar, and start speaking. The recording continues if the screen locks, you switch apps, or you keep talking for an hour. Tap the floating control or return to the app to stop.

• The microphone doesn’t work.Open iOS Settings → Family Museum and confirm Microphone and Speech Recognition are both on. The app needs both to transcribe.
• The transcript stops mid-sentence.Live transcription runs on-device. If it pauses, the recording is still saving audio — open Review afterward and tap “Re-transcribe in the cloud” (if you’ve opted in) or re-run on-device from the same screen.
• The waveform animates but no words appear.A language model may still be downloading on first launch. Wait a minute and try again; you’ll see a banner if something failed.

Transcription & speakers

After a recording, Family Museum uses on-device diarization to label who spoke each line. Review the labels in the post-recording screen and tap a speaker chip to assign the right person. The more you label, the better future recordings auto-label.

• A speaker is misidentified.Tap the chip and pick the correct person — the app learns. If a person doesn’t exist yet, add them from the same chip.
• The recording was bilingual.Enable the second language in Settings → Languages. The first time you do this, a model downloads (around 100 MB) before the per-speaker pass runs. After that, it’s instant.
• The dates in a story are wrong.Tap any year chip in Review to correct it. The app learns the speaker’s birthdate from your corrections and uses it for future time-resolution.

Ask the archive

Ask works once you have a few stories saved. Type a question in plain English (“What stories happen in the kitchen?”) and the answer is grounded in citations back to specific recordings. Tap a citation to jump to the moment.

• Ask says “no relevant stories.” The archive may not contain anything matching the question yet, or the question is restricted by audience controls (Just Me / Close Family). Try a broader question.
• Ask is unavailable on my plan. Ask is part of the subscription. The first three recordings include Ask access; after that, an active subscription is required.

Subscription & billing

Family Museum is free to try. Your first three stories cost nothing and Ask works on them. After that, a subscription keeps the archive growing — $4.99/month or $39.99/year, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan.

• How do I cancel?Open iOS Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → Family Museum → Cancel. You keep access until the period ends.
• How do I get a refund? All Family Museum purchases run through Apple. Use reportaproblem.apple.com within 90 days. Apple decides; we cannot issue refunds directly.
• I was charged after cancelling.The most common cause is a renewal that occurred before the cancellation registered. Check reportaproblem.apple.com first, then write to us if it’s still wrong.
• Restore Purchase isn’t finding my subscription. Make sure you’re signed into the same Apple ID you used to subscribe. Then open Family Museum → Settings → tap Restore Purchase on the paywall.

Your data & privacy

Audio and transcripts live on your device. Transcription runs on-device by default. If you opt into cloud-assisted transcription for a specific tier, audio is sent to a transcription provider and discarded immediately after. We don’t store your audio on our servers and we cannot read your archive. The full story is in our privacy policy.

• I want my data exported. Write to privacy@familymuseum.co with the email tied to your Apple ID. Most of your data is already on your device — we’ll help you locate and export it.
• I want my account deleted.Open Family Museum → Settings → Delete account. This removes every story, person, voice profile, and saved file from the device and any iCloud zones we own. It cannot be undone.

Devices & iCloud

• Does Family Museum sync across my iPhone and iPad? Not in this version. Your stories live locally on the device that recorded them. Cross-device sync via iCloud is on the roadmap.
• Is there an Android version?Not yet, and not soon. The on-device transcription and the privacy story both depend on Apple-specific frameworks. We’re focused on getting iPhone right first.
• Will it work on older iPhones? Family Museum requires iOS 26 or later. On-device models for Speech and Diarization need recent hardware to run smoothly.

• Your iOS version and iPhone model (iOS Settings → General → About).
• The app version (Family Museum → Settings, scroll to the bottom).
• A screenshot or short screen recording if you can — it makes everything easier.
